The Leatherhead Theatre

I was approached by The Leatherhead Theatre (TLT) Board to redesign their brand identity and communications strategy to attract a younger and wider demographic of potential theatre goers.

The logotype was inspired by the striking internal Brutalist architecture of TLT, which was incidentally, the precursor to the National Theatre and the Barbican Estate in London. The graphic language was developed utilising a modified version of Paul Renner’s, Futura. The vowel letterforms were replaced with modernist shapes to draw connotations to the nature of the Brutalist design. Black and white are the core colours of the brand which helps to eliminate extraneous printing and production costs.
